Vampire Knight

A quick thought.

Episodes: 01-06

: Zero and Yuki being all sexy and stuff.

The words “sexy” and “vampire” seem to go hand in hand these days. The recent theatrical release of Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” has led to sexy vampire mania and a sudden influx of a whole new breed of vampire fantards. However, the vampire craze is nothing new to the otaku scene which has worked and reworked these pale wonders into various medias more than one could ever imagine. Vampire Knight is no exception, it is after all yet another vampire anime.

I stumbled upon this anime after finding the sequel’s title “Vampire Knight: Guilty” hilarious to say out loud. I spent a good two hours yesterday watching various vampires walking and jumping around in sexiness. Strangely enough, the lack of plot is rather gripping.

Yuki and Kaname being pretty sexy.

Yuki is a high school girl traumatised by her past experiences; a monstrous looking vampire basically tried to eat off her face. Luckily enough, a sexy bishounen vampire jumped in and vanquished the evil vampire, saving her. This is suitor A, Kaname. He is a pure blood vampire and this makes him a super upper class awesome sexy vampire, a notch above the rest. Suitor B on the other hand is Yuki’s adopted brother, Zero, who has also experienced hardship due to vampires. He comes from a long line of vampire hunters, but they obviously weren’t very good at their job since they all died in a horrific vampire attack leaving Zero all by his lonesome self. Zero lives in a state of utter self loathing, while Kaname strides around in his undead beauty keeping the other vampires in check.

The plot is thin and pretty much transparent from the beginning, yet watchable and maybe even enjoyable if you’re into vampires or even if you are just into the sexy. This is probably since if you replace all the blood drinking/eating scenes with sex scenes, you’re left with an average HBO TV drama – and who doesn’t love an average HBO drama? The entire anime so far has been: this guy hates this guy, this guy hates himself, this girl likes this guy, this guy might like this guy, this guy eats this girl, this girl lets this guy eat her, this guy wants to eat this girl… So far, I imagine that if the Twilight fantards ever came across “Vampire Knight”, they might just wet their pants. Hell, they probably already have.

The melodrama is surely to climax (about 10 more times) in the next few episodes.

Crossroads.

There are times in life where everything seems to come to a dead standstill, when everything has simply hit a giant brick wall of doom. Nothing seems to measure up to what you thought it would be and looking at those around you who have accomplished so much more in such a small amount of time only makes you feel inferior and oh-so-helpless - this is a crossroad.

It appears that I have reached this point in my life.

Standing at this crossroad, one would imagine either one of two subsequent events: a) a downwards spiral into depression with the help of cask wine and bargain bin romance novels to pass the time away (my brother would describe this as “knock-knock-knocking on sad gal door”) or alternatively, b) a sudden and wonderful revelation leading to a new found way to live and achieve success; grasping life with both hands and taking everything on offer.

I sit with face in palms.

The only option now is to start an anime commentary. The unlisted alternative. The other other white meat. The only solution to this dire predicament is to drown within a sea of anime. It’s for the sake of my future. (Mind you,my brother would still describe this as “knock-knock-knocking on sad gal door”). This may not seem to follow from the original train of thought, but don’t you judge me.

All the while, Momus lifts a mask from his face as he points a finger and laughs at me. He’s not just laughing subtly either, he’s actually doing the roflcopter thing all over the floor.

Daijobu, Tuxedo Kamen will save me.
